The adoption of digital health checks for homecare providers

Leading homecare providers around the country are using Whzan’s digital health checks to offer better care to their clients, reassurance and comfort to loved ones and strengthen their relationships with ICBs.

For over 15 years, we’ve been helping the NHS transform care with remote health monitoring. Our technology is now used in nearly 3,000 care homes across the UK, helping carers spot early signs of deterioration, bringing their residents the right care faster.

After this proven experience in improving care, the NHS recently came to us with a new question:

"Could this same technology support people receiving care in their own homes?"

That’s how our journey into domiciliary care began.

That’s how our journey into domiciliary care began.

Testing the Waters: NHS Pilots in South Devon, East London & Bedfordshire

The NHS wanted to see if our system could help domiciliary care providers improve access to healthcare and reduce pressure on GP surgeries and hospitals. So, they ran pilot schemes in South Devon, East London and Bedfordshire, where paid care providers were given our Whzan Blue Box and trained on how to use it.

Our portable box allowed carers to use the equipment it contains to measure vital signs, such as blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature, to complete the NEWS2 algorithm. With this information, used as a common language in the NHS carers could quickly spot if a client’s health was deteriorating and provide clear evidence when calling a GP or NHS 111.

What We Discovered

The results were better than anyone expected.

  • Carers felt more confident. They loved learning new skills and felt empowered to take a more active role in their clients’ health.

  • Healthcare professionals listened because carers were able to provide accurate health readings and, importantly, the NEWS2 score; their concerns were taken seriously. GPs and emergency services responded faster, knowing they had reliable and validated information.

  • Stronger relationships with GPs. Carers earned the trust and respect of local doctors, helping to reduce unnecessary home visits and long waiting times.

  • Happier, healthier clients. By catching health problems earlier, carers helped reduce hospital admissions—which meant fewer stressful trips to A&E and better outcomes for the people they support.

The Future of Digital Health in Domiciliary Care

These pilots proved that domiciliary care teams can play a bigger role in frontline healthcare and that digital health tools such as the Whzan Blue Box can make their jobs easier and far more rewarding.

In turn, this increases the value proposition being offered by providers, as well as providing reassurance to clients and their loved ones that they are being given the best care available.

At Whzan Digital Health, we’re proud to be part of this journey. Our mission is simple: to support carers with smart, easy-to-use technology that helps them keep people healthy and happy in the place they call home.
